gladilous gladiola

Here are some photos of a beautiful flower  called gladiola. These flowers are also called the "Sword Lily" because of their long sword shaped leaves but the Gladiolas are not part of the Lily family. There are several colors of gladiolas, including yellowish to orange, pink, purplish, contrasting markings, white to cream, yellow to violet or orange to red and many more.

These flowers are planted during spring and usually bloom during month of August. You should plant this flower in rich loose soil with full sunlight and plenty of water while growing (but don't over water them).

Gladiolas are birth flower for the month of August.
Many of us don't know yet that flowers may symbolize your birth just like birth stones.

You can cut there flower and put it in your vase indoors if you wish too. cut when at least 3 of the "florets" on the stem have opened. They will continue to open in the vase.

But be careful if you have children around your house. Instruct them not to play with the flower because some of it are poisonous if ingested. It's better to keep out of reach if want to display it indoors.
